Before Driving - Driving safety
Leave the self-driving car at home.
- Did you drink and need a companion to drive?
- Did you perform an app-check (GPS) on your driving route for hints of delays?
- Did you look outside to see weather conditions and check the weather report?
- Don't drive in water
- In hurricanes, avoid the storm surge
- Do you have the right clothing, and dressed appropriately?
- Checked mobile and auto batteries (acid or electric) charge?
- Checked windshield washer fluid levels front and rear?
- If you have a rear-wheel drive (RWD) vehicle, your vehicle operates as if it's being "pushed" therefore less steering-correction control if you lose control
- If you have a front-whee drive (FWD) vehicle, your vehicle operates as if it is "pulling" and better steering correction-control if you were to lose control
- Expect overall weaker traction control
- Obey the traffic safety laws
During Driving - Drive safely
Don't make the proverbial Titanic mistake of underestimating the iceberg ahead.
- Obey the traffic safety laws (again)
- Don't drink and drive (get a companion)
- Don't text and drive (pull-off the road)
- If you need to make a call, then use hands-free dialing such as "Hi Siri" or "Ok Google"
- In low light and visibility conditions set headlights on and reduce speed
- In snow accumulation conditions set headlights on and reduce speed
Arriving Safely - Stay safe
- Observe and look-around before getting out of your vehicle
- Don't leave keys or valuable possessions in your vehicle (when practicable)
- Don't leave anyone or pets unattended, and not safely secured
